One of the tasks I love most as a photographer is remastering old images. It's like treasure hunting! The first image in this set is how I found my grandpa. It isn't even an actual photo. Someone had the photo enlarged onto standard letter paper, and the photo is lost. The paper had been in my mom's basement since the 1980's, and survived two floods. This is how the image looked in broad daylight!
Bubs (grandpa) was fading fast, and I couldn't bear losing him again. I took a digital image with a high quality medium format camera of the paper. Using my skills and the latest photography software, I'm happy to report that I can see my grandpa once again.
This image is circa WWI, so he would have been 19 or 20 years of age, born 1901. Escaping from the Armenian genocide, he went to France, then to the USA. I'm assuming this is an American uniform. But, that generation is gone and there's no one left to ask. I hope you protect your history. Don't let your family and friend images fade away. Protect those treasures!
