Some of my best memories of nature are the stories that have been shared with me by clients! This is an image of a Blue Morph Butterfly. They are very difficult to shoot because they are always moving, so I was delighted to capture this.
Back when I did art shows, I had an image of a Blue Morph displayed. People were milling around, going from my display to the next, but there was one lady who seemed to come back to my tent every half hour, just looking at this butterfly.
On the last day of the show, as all the artists packed up their displays, who should walk in but my Morph Lady. She said to me, 'I told myself if this was still available, I would get it!.' She continued, 'My ex-husband was obsessed with this butterfly! It was his absolute fave! Our marriage wasn't good, but our friendship remained strong. I really struggled with his death this year'.
So, in an effort to create some fun, she brought all of their grandchildren to the Detroit Zoo. That's where the most incredible thing happened! The family walked into the butterfly house, and within seconds, a stunning Blue Morph rested on her shirt, over heart, for 20 minutes! She knew that the Morph was a message from her ex-husband, letting her know that she was doing a great job with their family, helping everyone find joy after his death.
Needless to say, we were both moved to tears, and I was honored to send her home with an image that reminded her of that special day. The stories of people and their special connections with animals and nature keep me inspired. Yes, I love my job!
